Introducing Maren Morris;
Maren Morris was one of these artists. Her voice compelled us to watch her but her catchy hooks kept us staying. As you might know by now, I am a sucker for a country/pop crossover. In the UK, artists such as Sam Hunt, Carrie Underwood and Kacey Musgraves have become regular names on our mainstream Radio stations and prime time TV shows. There is a growing need for country music here and artists such as Maren Morris are the perfect answer.
80's Mercedes was the song I remembered most distinctly in her set. My sister turned to me during the song and was beaming. Her music does just that! It's great feel good tracks that immediately sets you in the mood for a Pimms on a Sunday afternoon BBQ. I quickly searched on Spotify for her music during her set and added the EP into my listening queue.
The Maren Morris EP is as strong as an EP can be. It's five examples of great country/pop music, acting as a perfect introduction into the kind of the artist she wants to be with enough room to see that she is capable of more, if given more backing and opportunity. It also includes her single, 'My Church' which has now become my favourite track on the EP. It's such an anthem song, calling all those listening to rejoice 'Hallelujah!'. I'm not even religious but I enjoy it's inclusive feel and the way the melody grows and falls playfully throughout the song.
Maren has now announced that her debut album 'Hero' is on it's way... Safe to say, I will be giving it a listen with the hope of many more. Despite her young age, Maren gives the sense of a maturity in her songwriting style, setting her apart from many of the other upcoming young country singers!
Her debut album 'Hero' is out on 3rd June!
