St Patrick;
So I first saw PVRIS in Kerrang! magazine a few months back. With Lynn Gunn's shaved eyebrow, plug and overall heavy attire I assumed without a doubt that these guys would be similar to the regular sassy females Kerrang! tends to feature. In my head I compared them to Marmozets, Tonight Alive or even Halestorm. So when I first heard St Patrick I was in genuine shock. The drop sounds more like something you would hear in a club on a Saturday night, super poppy and a hell of a distance from anything normally featured in Kerrang! (with the exception of 5sos of course..).
But the more I listened to this song the more I fell in love. Lynn has a spectacular voice, high pitched and feminine with just enough texture to grasp the rawness of the lyrics 'you give me something to think about, that's not the shit in my head'. I related to these lyrics instantly, having that one person who doesn't make everything seem so dark. She relates to this special person as a 'saint' and a 'miracle' giving the song a a heavenly, even spiritual touch, which I adore. In a recent interview with Kerrang! this week she says the following...
"It's about the person who pulled me out of a really tough time I was going through. I didn't think anything or anybody would be able to make me think about anything else, and he ended up doing that, which made him quite a saint to me... Its the happiest 'song' we have and I love that it gets everyone jumping at the end!"
I love how PVRIS combine the two genres, pop and rock, into a perfect mixture of experimental rock with such ease. I genuinely believe this is the future of music. No longer having separate genres but those which merge and intertwine to form something totally original and unique.
Their album White Noise was released in November of last year reaching number 13 in the UK Rock Chart. However this month there has been a massive surge of fans loving St Patrick as it claims the 4th spot in this weeks Kerrang! Rock Chart. If you haven't heard the beauty that is PVRIS already check them out below.
