Katie Nicholas: Chemistry

Chemistry;

This is such a lovely little song, with beautiful vocals, gracious and quirky lyrics and an overall feel of pure serenity.

As we all know, I am a sucker for an acoustic guitar, folk riffs, light vocals and soft harmonies and so Chemistry automatically ticks all those boxes. Yet, it is rare to find a song which is this special. With lyrics "Cause this love is like a calculation, a funny little combination, of feelings and smiles, memories and miles." we are given a love song, which I find myself wanting to listen to as I walk through a park, wrapped in jumpers and scarves and feeling all autumnal because thats what this song is: warm. Like a hug.

I love the guitar riff and the way it moves harmonically and melodically, gliding beneath the vocals but still being poignant enough to hold the listener by itself. The lyrics are just so bittersweet and innocent, I found it hard not to smile after every sentence, becoming further compelled by the song as a whole. Lastly, is her voice. It's so coaxing, crisp and clear, you cannot help but become lost within it's velvet-like texture and follow it wherever it goes, out of curiosity of it's fragility or assurance in it's ability to take you somewhere you'll like.

If you are looking for an easy listening song to play on repeat, with a sorta more folky/indie Gabrielle Aplin/Kacey Musgraves sorta feel, I suggest giving this a listen. I felt the Chemistry immediately and have had it on repeat the last few evenings! I have recently been finding comfort in these beautiful love songs (previously being quite cold hearted about this whole topic) and find myself placing Chemistry in the midst with others I find a warmth within.
