Ghost Stories;
It's always an amazing moment when you discover a small band that only a handful of people know about. One which you can genuinely brag about hearing before "they get big." Monks of Mellonwah are an act who are on the rise after captivating their homeland, Australia. Their sound is primarily psychedelic rock, somewhat of an elusive hybrid between The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Muse.
Arguably their most successful song to date is Ghost Stories and has reached over 100,000 views on Youtube, a colossal feat for a relatively unknown band. The song itself captures the listener and takes them on a musical journey like no other. The guitars are played with a variety of emotions, whether it be the sharp distortion heard during the verses, or the soothing melodies of the bridge. The build-up throughout the song is well thought out, as suddenly towards the end of the song the instruments get cranked up and you can definitely hear the influence from Muse in the outro. My personal highlight from Ghost Stories is the unique vocal tone provided by singer Vikram Kaushik.
Hopefully Monks of Mellonwah will eventually gain international recognition and get the respect they deserve. Their album "Turn The People" is out now and it is definitely worth a listen.
