Ben Howard: End of the Affair

End of the Affair;

(As I couldn't seem to find this video in the selection, click the link to listen while you read.)

This song is nearly 8 minutes long, and it is no where near long enough. It should just never end, at all. You hardly even feel it pass by, it's breathtaking. End of the Affair is Ben Howard's new song that I was extremely excited to hear about, when one of my friends told me about his new release. It has been on repeat and will stay on repeat for a very long time.

It's so overwhelming I'm finding it hard to explain what is actually so great about it, which is what I'm actually supposed to be writing about. So I'll start with this: Daisy and I were talking about his music the other day in fact and the way she put it, was that each of the songs are a separate story. For example; Every Kingdom makes up this whole story with each song flowing through from start to finish, likes chapters. This is how I feel about this one song - the beginning is introduced, so carefully and calmly and it flows right through, slowly building up without you even realising until it has. Now it's built up and it's this whole cacophony of the sound of his guitar, his voice, the percussion and background voices that blend together so well, that they were made to be there. Sadly, that draws the song to finish and it ends well - perfectly so, only it would be great if it didn't end, so it seems that repeating the song is my only option.

His previous works, Every Kingdom and Burgh Island are two of my favourite albums/EPs, and it seems like his new pieces are going to be just as good, he never disappoints.
