PORT ISLA:
When seeing one of my favourites from this year (can't lie, of all time as well) George Ezra recently, I was introduced to Port Isla as they supported him on his tour just past and I was immediately won over by incredibly catchy and organic tracks. I say organic because there is something reassuring about a band who play their own instruments and play them in the way they do. Port Isla's sound is interesting despite this fact because they move away from being that stereotypical 'boys-who-play-in-a-band' or the 'punk-pop-rock band' sound. Instead, they seem to be a sort of indie/pop/rock fusion, creating exciting and fun tracks. However, I know the word 'indie' automatically transcends to the ever-popular bands such as 'Two Door Cinema Club' or perhaps even 'Coldplay' but Port Isla are nothing like them but instead, something quite uinique. When I saw them, the first thing that stood out was that the lead singer looks like someone I know (not him, I think I would know if it was) but secondly, that their music seemed to just match their appearance. They are young(ish) and just seem like pretty normal guys: I found myself mirroring their music and lyrics in some of my own. Overall, their feel was just something that was cool and fun and something I could have listened too all evening (obviously not forgetting my fav George) and when I saw they were on the BBC Introducing stage at Glasto, I smiled because I now know they are on the way up (they are kinda too good for it not to happen) and I think people will react to them, especially YA audiences. I think 2015 promises these boys something bigger and I really truly want to see them live again... Myself and fellow forteloud family member Jamie thought they were brilliant!
I've attached an acoustic performance of their song 'Steamroller' above, not only to showcase the song, but to show you what they are like live. Although I have only just started following this band, I know I will continue and am looking forward to what comes next!
