When I think Owl City I instantly think summer. His music is such a happy place and you can't help but be brightened when he goes on shuffle. The title Beautiful Times instantly alludes to something which will most probably be positive and in the midst of April showers, I pressed the play button and wasn't disappointed. Owl City and his burst of colour and electronic wonders are expressed from the get go. I love how the beat drops, quite innocently and lightly, so although he uses a technique which is in almost every dance track these days, we still hear Owl City and his youthful electronic sound is intact. I love the deep chords at the start... They exaggerate the building of the track and once the beat drops, we are welcomed into a catchy melody and lyrics, following Owl City with the Beautiful Times he wants us to experience. I love the string solo that comes and goes throughout the track. It adds something a little different, making this stand out from other dance music. It interweaves up and down through the beat and we move with it, like a wave in the wind, making it easier for us to enjoy the track and therefore it does become a beautiful time when we listen to it. It again adds to Owl City's sound and reassures listeners this artist is still himself through the changing times.
Another instant feel-good track by him, which not everyone knows about, is his song for the Disney film 'Wreck It Ralph' called 'When Can I See You Again' and I have always loved it since watching the film. It reminds me of this song a little so I thought i'd link it below. If you haven't listened to it, you should! It's super catchy and makes ya smile :)
