The Fly;
I first heard about Cosmo Sheldrake when I saw him live supporting Johnny Flynn at Koko in Camden. I loved his music straight away and haven't stopped listening since the gig last Wednesday. From the way he introduces his songs, giving little bits of information and breaking the songs down, such as to show where he get the samples for his songs from.These things make his set so much more interesting, but also give you another way of listening to the piece itself. The samples he uses are of sounds that he's recorded when he's travelled or sounds that he's found himself; for example, the beat of this song, The Fly, is a recording of slate. The text of The Fly, "Little fly, thy summer's play, my thoughtless hand, has brushed away", is a William Blake poem from the Songs of Experience called the The Fly. Knowing all of these things about the piece, for me anyway, make it sound so much more alive. His music is well worth a listen, and he has also just released a new single called The Moss. Definitely well worth a listen, on repeat for a very long time.
