Athlete: Wires

Wires;

Athlete is by no means a new band. They formed in 2000 and are still going strong today. They have had many huge singles as well as Wires, including Half-Light, Tourist and You Got The Style. But as of late I have heard Wires on the radio over and over. The song is so heartwarming and special to me I decided it just had to be on the blog! The song written by the lead, Joel Pott, is a personal story about how he rushed to hospital to see his new baby daughter after she was born prematurely. The lyrics are both fearful 'I got tears, that are scared of the facts' and hopeful 'I see it in your eyes, you'll be alright'. My personal favourite part of the song is the chorus where you can imagine the hospital and the urgency of the singer wanting to get to his daughter asap, 'Running down corridors.. Got to get to you'. The way its sung, especially at a higher tone nearing the end of the song, allows you to almost feel the emotion and fear. This song is one of the very few that actually gives me shivers! If you haven't heard Wires already do not hesitate to give it a listen! It is truly beautiful.
