Goodness Gracious... What a song Ellie has graced us with. I'm a massive Ellie Goulding fan and so the extension to her Halcyon album 'Halcyon Days' was highly anticipated in my household (it was only really me actually) but anyhow, I listened to the new songs and found all of them to be filled with light. Tracks such as 'Burn', 'Stay Awake' and 'How Long Will I Love You' are bright and positive but in completely different ways musically. Two focuses on the beats and the other focuses on vocals however, both emit a positive vibe. Goodness Gracious does the same thing but uses both vocals and beats to portray conflicting but positive feelings:"I wanna hold you close, I just never want to hold you tight' is sung through an incredibly catchy melody over strong dance beats. I love the call and response technique in the vocals in the pre-chorus, "I keep calling your name" which is then repeated. It makes the words more memorable, as the listeners hear them again and again, yet at the same time, portraying the confusion Ellie is feeling, as she is repeating herself. However, the repetition is mainly just so god damn catchy and you can't help but join in by the last chorus. The beats are strong and playful, again just making the song easier to dance along too. The video caught my attention just as much as the song did. It's so colourful and tropical it gets me excited for summer! I definitely makes for a pleasant viewing, letting the song feel even more positive. It makes these cold and wet weeks in the UK much brighter!
