Bon Iver: '22 (OVER S∞∞N)' + '10 D E A T H B R E A S T ⊠ ⊠' (EXTENDED VERSIONS)

22 (OVER S∞∞N) 10 d E A T h b R E a s T  ⊠ (Extended Versions);

It's been five years since Bon Iver's last release and from the talk around that time I expected their self-titled album to be one of the last full releases that I heard from them - so this release is an extremely pleasant surprise. August has been a very good month for new music. Not only did Bon Iver release information about their new upcoming album but they gave us two songs to keep us going until September: 22 (OVER S∞∞N) and 10 d E A T h b R E a s T .
The tracks are much more electronic than their previous albums, fitting with the style of some of their work in their Blood Bank EP (their experiments with vocal parts) and more of their solo (Justin Vernon's (Volcano Choir) and S. Carey's) and collaborative work (James Blake). The style carries on experimenting with vocal parts and pushes the tracks further with creating the atmospheres and soundscapes through their electronicism.
These tracks are different to their most of the work on their previous albums but the route they've taken their work is a more expected development - from their collaborative and solo work it's clear that this style is what they've been working towards or what they're currently interesting in exploring. It's brilliant to see an artist slowly develop their style. They're a group that always bring out work worth listening to, that you'll recognise - through Vernon's and Carey's voice - through the elements and quirks that drew you to their music initially. Even if their style has taken a different route and it's not what originally drew you in to their music to begin with you'll find those quirks and be drawn right back in again.
These last few months of 2016 are going to be good with the new albums that we'll be given. Clearly, I'm very biased about this - hearing that they'd released new tracks made my day so being unbiased wasn't going to happen but have a listen and see what you think. I think you'll be surprised - hopefully pleasantly.
