Shortline
+ Salt;
RY X is
back with his debut album - Dawn.
It's better than I expected. There have been so many artists recently releasing
a lot of the same genre of music that pretty much sounded the same - it made it
quite difficult to find new and interesting music, but Dawn, although goes
along the same lines, draws you in and makes it own mark.
RY X has evolved since his first single Berlin (and although it's progressed, this single is still included in the album and fits in so well).
His work has progressed and grown from his introduction of open soundscapes,
with guitar lines full of reverb and his falsetto parts leading the track. Shortline
shows a different side to the instrumental part of his music,
incorporating another instrument and also exploring a slightly more electronic
side of things. Shortline’s main instrumental accompaniment is the piano with
an arpeggiated choral piano line that is introduced throughout the chorus and
the bridge. Salt goes back to his
roots with a softly strummed guitar part but brings in the new with a chordal
piano melody as it fades into its strings and percussion.
His falsetto parts drive the tracks, "but here we are turning our heads down / here we are falling like lovers / we're falling like lovers and I turn my head / 'cause I know what shame you've done", that are accompanied by layers of backing vocals and harmonies adding to this soundscape that he creates so beautifully.
These tracks are a subtle mix of different
genres and fit so well on the album. Dawn is a brilliant official debut
album that’s so easy and serene to listen to, and something he should be proud of after all that work.
