'All The Ways' by Wet

All The Ways;

Wet are a band I found earlier last year and have sort of been obsessed with since. Their track 'Deadwater' was my favourite song by them until I heard this beauty...

All The Ways is love song and typically I am very particular about these kind of songs. I either find them too cheesy or not cheesy enough (I know that doesn't make sense but just go with it). These songs are too romanticised and often miss reality. Yet, Wet have once again created a song which captivates the thoughts and feelings of wanting to be with someone and the insecurities once you are.

Yet, part of the joy with Wet songs and in this one in particular is that through the ambient drones and often melancholy lyrics, there is an overall major feel throughout the track and the melody often lifts out and over what the words suggest. It makes the whole process seem more normal and the emotions discussed in the song acceptable. This isn't too say the song completely ignores the narrative. I love the way the melody plays rhythmically in the first verse.

'I want you 'til I feel your touch, I keep you close close enough'.

The words are running like a train of thought, with the melody wrapping round and round itself in a circle. The repetition of this and the word 'close' exaggerates the desire to have someone around. The syncipation on the sentence:

'can I give you what you need?'

exaggerates her want to be the person that they want: she's pushing for them. I also like how in certain sections her voice strengthens. I love the airy vocals and the lightness of her vocals. I think it's effective to use her voice as a tool to deepen the need behind certain phrases, using it both ways.

'But I don't want to give up. I don't want to give up what we have."

Yet, the times where her voice becomes even lighter, we are captivated and trapped in the fragility of the moment, stressing how strongly these emotions can feel in both moments.

"No you're not the same as them but I can't let you in."

Lastly, I just think this is a great track. It's catchy, cool and captivating. Their debut album 'Don't You' dropped last week and I am are absolutely loving it.
