Wasn't Expecting That;
Probably the most beautiful love story I have heard in a very long time. Jamie Lawson takes a new twist on a classic love story by singing about the hint of surprise every time something in his life took a new turn. As the song unravels into more of a story Jamie repeats 'I wasn't expecting that' as we're informed of each new chapter of his life with his wife. 'Time doesn't take long, three kids up and gone, I wasn't expecting that'. I found myself so eager to hear the next part of the song to see what was going to happen in the relationship. It was almost like I was hooked on a book or a film rather than a 3 and a half minute song. I think it is only a really talented songwriter who can entice its listeners and get them addicted in such a short amount of time. I have heard only a few in my time who can do this so when I found Jamie Lawson I had no choice but to write a post about him.
What I absolutely love about this song is how Jamie seems to have no intention of becoming this happy in a relationship. He comes across as innocent and sweet as he recollects how lucky he has been. 'I thought you were just passing through.. what did I get right to deserve somebody like you? I wasn't expecting that'. The listener envisions this golden woman who has made Jamie so happy, as though he is putting her on a pedestal above all others, possibly what every girl longs for in the future.
Therefore when we hear the very last lyrics of the song your heart breaks in to tiny pieces. I challenge anyone and everyone to listen to the last lyrics without having at least a little tear. Wasn't Expecting That by Jamie Lawson stayed with me a very long time after hearing it. I then watched the video and found myself physically weeping..
Jamie Lawson is the very first artist to be signed to Ed Sheeran's new label, Gingerbread Man Records. He also supported Ed on his Australian/ New Zealand leg of his 'X tour' in March and April this year. Cannot wait to hear what else this superb new artist has to offer.
