The People The Poet: Molly Drove Me Away

Molly Drove Me Away;

"She is always stuck in my mind." is a lyric in the first verse, and honestly, 'Molly Drove Me Away' truly is.

I heard this track quite a while ago, and having less time than I really wish I had (*cries*) this blog has been deserted by myself of late... However, the fact this track is still in my listening queue after the months ago I heard it says enough.

The song starts strong. The vocal melody is instantly catchy, with the driving drum and lifting harmonies entering the track in as little as the third line. The entire feel starts with a country/rock and roll sort of feel, which really hits when the main vocal raises with it's gritty angst, pushing through the track and raising the tension in a way rock music only really can do.

The chorus is punchy; Every instrument is pushing against the vocals and pumping the beat to the listener. (It was at this point I imaged the prospect of seeing this track live!) The chorus reminds me of those old rock classics, where everyone can shout along, punching the air and feeling as much a part of the track as the band themselves.

The People The Poet seem to be an artist quite unique to what is currently out there. Not punk-pop and not indie/country like Bears Den or Mumford & Sons (even with their new rockier sound). I do feel there is a gap in the market for this sort of band.

Lastly, the feel of the tracks are so organic. There is something quite special about making music using just instruments, rather than computer generated EDM or effects. It makes the music feel older whilst still being fresh amongst the music created today.

This is a band I am certainly going to keep my eye on and I suggest you do the same!
