You Me At Six;
Special guests Young Kato and Don Broco
5th April 2014 - Alexandra Palace

This was the third Ymas tour I have been to. Being a fan since their first EP, when I heard they were performing at Ally Pally, one of the UK's biggest venues, I just had to go! The show had a massive turn out, with the loyal Sixers camping outside the venue from the early morning, (70 people were in the queue by 5am!) You Me at Six were first formed in 2004 so this was their 10 year anniversary. To fit this quite special occasion they brought out a brand new album, Cavalier Youth. The album did not disappoint, their single Lived a Lie even reached number 1 in the UK chart! On this tour, there were two acts to support; Young Kato and Don Broco. Due to us underestimating the giant queue we missed a huge chunk of Young Kato's set, but luckily we did manage to catch their final song Drink Dance Play. This song is one of my favourites, first heard on an episode of Made in Chelsea believe it or not! The upbeat tempo and catchy chorus really got the crowd pumped up and excited for the performance to come. Next up was Don Broco. The heavier band contrasted to the more dancey Young Kato which provided variety to the show whilst covering a wider genre for the crowd. Don Broco's performance was top notch. They played a large chunk of their album Priorities released back in 2012. Their song Yeah Man was a particular highlight of mine as they really got the crowd involved who sung their lyrics back at them in a perfect chorus. Don Broco is one of Forteloud's one to watch for 2014 with rumours of another album to be released. And then finally, after much anticipation Ymas took to the stage. By this point, the whole venue was packed to the prim, holding nearly 15,000 people! They opened with Too Young to Feel This Old, the first track from their new album. This track was a great opener as it really got the crowd going. We all clapped and sang the repeated lyrics at the end of the song in unison which was really magical. They then went on to play several more tracks of their new album with a few old tracks thrown in between. I personally would've prefered if the band had played more of their older songs as unfortunately even Always Attract and Save it for the Bedroom were missed of the setlist. In addition, there were no acoustic songs compared to the many they put into their Sinner tour two years ago. However these were the only aspects that stopped their performance reaching a full Forteloud rating of five music notes. The night as a whole was really brilliant, with my personal highlight being their final song Lived a Lie where the crowd was covered in sparkling confetti. Josh Franceschi even gave a really heartwarming tribute to Kurt Cobain, a hero of theirs who inspired them to pick up their instruments and to become the band they are today. This to me really summed them up as a hardworking band who started out as just ordinary people with a dream to then progress to the fabulous musicians they are at present. Their brilliant performance made me proud to be a dedicated Sixer and made me want to continue to support the band through their incredible journey.
