Paloma Faith is just one of my favourite people in general. I've never met her (obvs) but she seems to be the kind of person who, if you met, she'd be exactly what she is like on TV. Sweet, talented and quite quirky. I think this is part of the reason I admire her music; it always feels really authentic and real and her voice is so powerful I find myself really listening to the lyrics as well as her voice. I went to check out her new album on iTunes and saw this one track Only Love Can Hurt Like This to be the most popular out of the tracks so naturally I gave it a listen and immediately fell in love with it... The brass and strong beat grasped me instantly and the melody is so catchy and piercing: I love it when she jumps the octave higher on the second chorus because not only is she showing off her talent, she is exaggerating the emotion behind the words. This is a great little example of the power of brass and I do wish more artists would use it. As a fan of the 'big band era', this pop/jazz crossover is always a win for me. If you haven't, watch Paloma in any interview she does. Like her music, i'm pretty sure she'll win you over!
