This is one of the most beautiful songs i've heard in a long time. The piano at the start, playing 'Good King Wenceslas', is so familiar, so I kept listening, even though I was a little confused... A song which is usually associated with Christmas is in a song called 'Little Girl Blue'... Why? Nonetheless, the piano warmed me and when the piano started floating within itself with the two different parts playing, I had to carry on listening because it just sounded so perfect. However, as soon as Laura started singing, I was won into believing this was something completely wonderful. This song is a serenade. The vocal melody is just so warm and enchanting, in the way it falls and grows but feels so natural, despite it remaining low for the female register. We hear the initial piano part we all know so well somehow become bluesy so it fits perfectly with the jazz drums and the way Laura's voice moves along the track. This is a class piece of music, expressing so much emotion but being able to include the listener without being what we class as a typical song. After one listening, you cannot find a chorus or define all the verses but you stay with it, till the end, feeling emotive and warmed without really listening to the lyrics but in it's wholeness and it's beautiful sound. Thank you Laura Mvula for this wonderful song. It was one of those you hear and you know you won't forget.
