Gilded Thieves: Old Devil

Old Devil;

I have always been a fan of country/folk music however, recently, i've been finding it hard to find new artists in this genre in the UK... I'm so glad this band approached me because Old Devil has been on repeat in my house! My father agreed this track was great when I played it to him and we found that our feet tapping for the entire song! The guitar strums push the track forward and keep the momentum going for the entire song. The vocals are also brilliant; I love the change from female to male and then the crossover, with lovely harmonies. I love the little injections on the Mandolin too. This along with the harmonica at the start of the song just enhances it's folky feel whilst also making the track stand out against other folk artists, such as Mumford and Sons; it gives it a more southern state American sort of feel. If you want a track to easily full in love with and love country/folk music, I suggest Old Devil because it's so catchy and Gilded Thieves are a great example of how us Brits can replicate that American sound in our own country!

Another track I loved was Candle. I like the harmonies at the start of the song; it's so pleasant to listen too, it kind of hypnotises listeners into flowing with the music. I like the instrumentation too as it's soft and light but still very much in the folk genre. I love how the track grows near the end of the song; It has various vocal lines overlapping and the guitar strumming gets slightly more aggressive.

All these tracks are on Gilded Thieves' new EP called Siren. This is available on their soundcloud!

I've also watched some live performances on YouTube and they are great live too! Well, i'll definitely going to see them when they gig!
